TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. The university advances knowledge through research and discovery, teaching and learning, community engagement and public service, and with an intentional focus on student success and research excellence. This is a 9-month tenure-track faculty position with reduced teaching load to allow for scholarly productivity. Primary duties will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, conducting research, and mentoring students. A 2-2 course load is provided in the first two years of hire to allow faculty to establish or maintain research productivity. Depending on the nature of research and productivity, a research lab may be provided. Duties also include serving on departmental, university, professional, and community committees. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

The department is multidisciplinary as it includes degrees in psychology and communication. Faculty in psychology are highly research productive and have unique research labs to support their research. They subscribe to Sona System for research management.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate in Developmental Psychology or a related field. ABD candidates will be considered but must have earned the doctorate before appointment. We seek candidates with research focusing on all areas of Developmental Psychology. Our community and department offer extensive opportunities for bilingual and multicultural research. We strongly encourage candidates whose research closely aligns with the bilingual and multicultural nature of our local community. We desire candidates with (1) a strong record of, or potential for, sustained publication in well-ranked peer-reviewed journals; (2) the potential for seeking and securing external grant funding; (3) a strong desire to work with undergraduate and graduate students, and (4) the ability to teach in areas that complement or strengthen our existing undergraduate and graduate psychology programs.

We offer competitive salaries and a benefits package including health insurance, retirement benefits, and life insurance. Additional pay is available for summer teaching. Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.
