Job Description:

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to help define and execute the technical vision for our ML infrastructure and productionization capabilities. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives at the intersection of rigorous engineering and applied research—someone who can translate cutting-edge ML advances into robust, scalable systems that serve millions.

You will work with rich, real-world datasets spanning multiple modalities: banking transactions, conversational data, and large document collections. You will help shape the frameworks and patterns that enable our research to reach production reliably and efficiently.

What You'll Do

  • Lead system design for scalable ML and generative AI platforms, making architectural decisions that balance innovation with operational excellence, reliability, and maintainability
  • Set technical standards for ML codebases—establishing patterns for testing, documentation, code quality, and deployment that elevate the entire team's output
  • Drive end-to-end ownership of complex ML systems from prototype through production, including monitoring, observability, and continuous improvement
  • Mentor and influence junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of engineering rigor and intellectual curiosity
  • Partner with researchers to bridge the gap between experimental models and production-grade implementations, identifying opportunities to accelerate the research-to-deployment pipeline
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with data platform, infrastructure, and product teams to ensure ML systems integrate seamlessly with the broader technology ecosystem
  • Contribute to technical strategy, helping define roadmaps for MLOps capabilities, tooling investments, and infrastructure evolution

What You Bring

Experience & Track Record

  • 6+ years of professional experience in machine learning engineering, with at least 3 years in senior or lead roles
  • Demonstrated history of delivering production ML systems at scale within complex, regulated environments
  • Experience designing and implementing MLOps pipelines, model serving infrastructure, and monitoring solutions
  • Track record of technical leadership: setting direction, unblocking teams, and raising the bar on engineering quality

Technical Depth

  • Expert-level proficiency in Python; strong working knowledge of SQL and at least one of R/Scala
  • Experience designing and building agentic AI solutions using large language models (e.g. OpenAI models, Anthropic Claude)
  • Deep understanding of ML fundamentals and practical experience with modern deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow)
  • Strong foundation in distributed systems, data engineering principles, and software architecture
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) including compute, storage, and ML-specific services
  • Familiarity with containerization, orchestration (Kubernetes), and CI/CD practices for ML

Mindset & Approach

  • Systems thinker who balances pragmatism with a drive for technical excellence
  • Strong communicator who can articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Collaborative leader who builds trust across research, engineering, and business stakeholders
  • Genuine curiosity about advancing the state of the art while delivering reliable, maintainable systems

Education

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related quantitative field (PhD a plus but not required with equivalent industry experience)

Nice to Have

  • Experience with generative AI systems (LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, etc.) in production
  • Contributions to open-source ML tooling or published research
  • Experience in financial services or other highly regulated industries
  • Familiarity with responsible AI practices: fairness, explainability, and governance frameworks
