Ready to engineer data systems that actually matter? At Tassal, we’re transforming the way Australia’s largest aquaculture business uses data and we are searching for a mid-level Data Engineer who wants to do work that makes a real impact. As part of Cooke Inc, you will also be connected to a global network of innovators working on the next evolution of analytics, AI and modern data platforms.
Why This Role?
You will step into a pipeline of high value, data driven projects across operations optimisation, advanced analytics, workflow automation and governed data products. You’ll be hands on in shaping the architecture, engineering practices and modern data stack as we move to Snowflake in the near future.
You will work closely with our Senior Data Engineer, helping build the pipelines, tooling and foundations that unlock insights across our business.
If you want to engineer systems that are scalable, battle tested and designed with real world complexity in mind, you will enjoy this role.
What You Will Be Building
You will have scope, ownership and trust to deliver genuine engineering work, including:
• Designing and maintaining high performance data ingestion pipelines from operational systems into our cloud data warehouse
• Developing modern ELT and orchestration workflows using Databricks or Snowflake, Azure Data Factory (ADF), dbt and Fivetran
• Building scalable data models that support analytics, dashboards and mission critical decisions
• Creating application to application integration pipelines to keep Tassal’s digital ecosystem working smoothly
• Championing CI/CD and engineering best practice, including version control, peer reviews, testing and monitoring
• Working with Digital and Data, Business Systems and business stakeholders to translate requirements into reliable architectures and high quality solutions
What You Will Bring
We are looking for someone who is curious, sharp and ready to take on a role with real influence. Ideally, you will have:
• 3 to 5+ years working with Databricks or Snowflake and dbt
• 3 to 5+ years experience in data engineering, analytics engineering or similar
• Experience building efficient, scalable and maintainable data models
• Strong SQL skills with readable and optimised queries
• Experience designing and maintaining automated data pipelines with resiliency and reliable recovery
• A good understanding of data governance, quality frameworks and security best practice
• A commitment to continuous improvement across the Tassal Data Platform
If you enjoy clean code, solid architecture, smart transformations and watching reliable pipelines run smoothly, you will fit in well.
Why Join Tassal?
• Your engineering will influence real world outcomes
• Hybrid work options (WFH after probation)
• A Hobart based role with global opportunities through Cooke Inc
• A supportive and collaborative team that values engineering excellence
• A modern data environment that is evolving quickly, and you get to help shape it
