Summary:
Under the direction of a Radiologist, Facility Manager performs mammography procedures according to protocols established according to the ACR and FDA, at a technical level requiring supervision of technical detail. Performs screening and diagnostic procedures using either 2D or 3D technical radiographic procedures that will require judgement and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated area or procedures as required. This level III position includes Mammography Specialist and Mammographers who perform stereotactic guided breast biopsies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (overall) include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
• Skill in the mammography technique in performing stereotactic guided breast biopsies. For the specialist role the responsibilities is to train new team members and offer ongoing training to those who need refreshed in positioning.
• Verifies that the prescription matches the procedure that is going to be performed, and records all reasons for the exam including the all signs and symptoms.
• Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
• Positions patient and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician.
• Moves mammography equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance.
• Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.
• Processes radiologic digital images and examines for technical quality and diagnostic acceptability.
• Verify that the patient’s exam corresponds to the ordered exam in PACS. Make changes in billing codes/exam titles as needed. Make sure to present any prior studies along with current studies to radiologist for diagnostic assessment.
• Stock/Order supplies, check machine for any problems, perform equipment QC when needed.
• All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications / Education / Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a 2-year radiologic technology program from an accredited school.
• Current and valid Florida State License (CRT)
• Current and valid Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry and Mammography (M) registry
• Basic Life Support BLS through the American Heart Association (CPR)
• Knowledge & skill performing Mammography procedures and protocols.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform mammography testing including body mechanics and patient movement.
• Knowledge of mammography equipment including safety hazards common to
radiology.
• Knowledge of customer service concepts and clinic policies including safety,
privacy and HIPAA regulations
• Knowledge of safety requirements for staff, patients and visitors.
• Skill in positioning patients properly.
• Skill in using computer network system competently to process patient and
department information.
• Skill in performing quality exams and exercising compassion with patients.
• Skill in completing job functions in a timely manner.
• Ability to communicate clearly in person and over the phone to
establish/maintain cooperative relationships with patients, families, physicians
and other staff.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients,
co-workers, and management.
