We offer a market-related, Total Remuneration Package which allows full flexibility according to your needs, a great work environment, and a promise that you won’t be bored as long as you are prepared for a challenge and want to build something great.

Think you’ve been challenged before? Think again!

  • Learn: We work with the best of the best, and then some. Code alongside industry leaders and upskill in record time.

  • Grow: Expand your career in the fast-growing Takealot Group: takealot.com and Mr D. We like to promote from within: Here’s your chance.

About the Team

The Data Insights & Monetisation team is responsible for building Takealot’s external-facing data products for sellers, suppliers and brands. Our mission is to transform Takealot’s rich first-party data into high-value insight products that help partners grow their businesses—while creating a new, scalable revenue stream for Takealot.

We build:

  • Seller, supplier and brand-facing dashboards and reports

  • Commercial insight products (e.g. performance benchmarking, category intelligence, demand signals)

  • Data-as-a-service and API-based offerings

  • Experimentation and measurement frameworks for commercial partners

  • This team operates at the intersection of data, product, and commercial strategy. We are building a product-led insights business from the ground up.

The Role

As a Data Analyst, you will be a core architect of Takealot’s data monetisation capability. You will:

  • Design and build analytical products that are used by external customers (sellers, suppliers, brands, agencies)

  • Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Commercial teams, and Leadership

  • Translate raw data into insight narratives that drive action and revenue

  • Define the metrics, models, and frameworks that underpin monetised data products

This is not a traditional “internal BI” role. You are building commercial-grade data products—where clarity, trust, and impact matter as much as technical correctness.

This position reports to the Advanced Analytics Manager

Your mission, should you choose to accept it:

Building Monetisable Insight Products

  • Design and deliver high-quality datasets, metrics, and models that power seller- and brand-facing insight products.

  • Help define what “good” looks like for external data products: accuracy, interpretability, relevance, and actionability.

Translating Data into Commercial Value

  • Turn complex platform data (orders, traffic, pricing, availability, promotions, ads, fulfilment) into clear commercial narratives.

  • Help partners answer real business questions: Where am I winning? Where am I losing? What should I do next?

Defining Success & Trust

  • Own metric definitions, data contracts, and validation logic for external-facing products.

  • Ensure insight products are consistent, explainable, and trusted by customers.

Scaling Insight Delivery

  • Build reusable analytical frameworks for benchmarking, cohorting, segmentation, and trend analysis.

  • Enable self-serve insights while preserving analytical rigor.

Partnering Across the Business

  • Work with Product to shape roadmap priorities.

  • Collaborate with Commercial teams to align insights to seller & supplier needs and monetisation strategy.

  • Act as a thought partner to Engineering on data models and pipelines.

The skills we need:

  • Solutions-oriented, with strong product and commercial instincts

  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and building from first principles

  • Able to balance analytical depth with clarity and usability

  • Ownership-driven, with high personal accountability

  • Curious about how data becomes a product, not just a report

  • Customer-centric: you care how real people interpret and use data

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, BTech or Advanced Diploma in Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering and 5 years of experience in an Analyst or in a similar analytical role.

  • In the event that you do not have a bachelor’s degree or an advanced diploma (in Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering), an equivalent experience requirement must be met, which equates to a minimum of 6 years of experience in an Analyst or in a similar analytical role.

  • Proven Experience: 5+ years in an Analyst or similar role, ideally in e-commerce, marketplaces, fintech, or high-scale digital platforms.

  • Strategic & Commercial Acumen: Ability to connect the dots between data and business goals, bringing both technical depth and strategic thinking to stakeholder conversations. Comfortable collaborating with commercial, product, and UX teams to guide decision-making and maximize business impact.

  • Deep Data Proficiency: 4+ years solid expertise in SQL for data extraction and transformation, working knowledge of Python for deeper analysis, modeling, or automation workflows is preferred.

  • Dashboarding & Data Visualization: Proficient in building and maintaining dashboards using tools such as Tableau, Looker, or Power BI with a focus on providing insights that drive action. External facing experience is preferred.

  • Data Engineering Fluency: Familiarity with modern data workflows and orchestration tools such as Airflow, dbt, and BigQuery, with an understanding of data pipelines, version control (Git), and scalable analytics architecture. Experience designing metrics and data models that will be reused at scale

  • Communication & Influence: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex analysis for a variety of audiences. Comfortable presenting to stakeholders at all levels and advocating for data-informed decisions.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: A team player who thrives in cross-functional environments and contributes actively to the broader Analytics and BI community. Skilled in supporting, challenging, and aligning stakeholders across product, design, engineering, and commercial teams.
