Description

Staff Software Engineer

Department: IT Development

Reports to: Manager of Software Engineering

Location: Hybrid - Dublin, Ohio (3 days) Remote (2 days)

Full-time, Exempt

We're constantly developing new and creative ways to solve the industry’s most complex problems. Our enterprise software solutions run the gamut of Information Technology Services–from prepaid wireless activations, to mobile and web app development. For the past 10+ years our originality attracts the most outstanding and innovative thinkers- allowing us to develop new and creative approaches while growing as the industry leader. Are you a passionate professional, ready to make changes in the tech world? Join our team today!?

This staff software engineer owns the architecture, technical direction, and code quality standards across all teams, is accountable for reducing core, systemic technical debt, and leads both project delivery and engineering mentorship. Their scope extends beyond individual projects to shaping how development, product, UX, and project management collaborate to deliver software.

Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Govern the architecture for our product ecosystem, including selecting patterns, frameworks, and tooling that support scalability, maintainability, and performance across teams.
  • Define and enforce coding standards, testing approaches, and best practices used by all teams, ensuring consistency and long-term maintainability.
  • Lead design and technical discovery for complex features, making trade-off decisions that balance product needs, technical debt, performance, and delivery timelines.
  • Oversee production monitoring and observability for applications, ensuring we have the alerting, dashboards, and processes needed to catch issues early and resolve incidents quickly.
  • Own and organize the documentation for not just projects, but all scribe-able development patterns and architectural decisions including training and onboarding practices.
  • Act as the final technical point of contact for guidance, debugging, and complicated issues that occur day-to-day.
  • Enable Team Leads to fully own projects from end to end while continuing to progress architectural goals and technical debt reduction by providing the right tooling, processes, and training opportunities.

Project & Delivery Ownership

  • Drive end-to-end delivery for major initiatives: requirements gathering, technical discovery, backlog refinement, project estimation, execution, and release.
  • Partner with product, UX, and the TPM team to clarify requirements, de-risk scope, and sequence work to meet deadlines without compromising quality or minimizing technical debt.
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for their projects, representing engineering in cross-functional discussions and making sure technical constraints and risks are clearly understood.
  • Guide and influence the team to follow established processes
  • Identify bottlenecks in our current process (handoffs, unclear ownership, rework) and lead experiments to streamline them, then standardize successful practices.

Mentorship, Coaching & Light People Leadership

  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership for individual contributors, including task delegation, code reviews, pairing, and ongoing coaching.
  • Help teammates grow by reviewing designs, giving structured feedback, and modeling high-quality engineering practices.
  • Influence and provide training to engineers beyond their immediate team through architecture reviews, documentation, and shared standards.

  • 5+ years of experience building and supporting software systems
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Experience with ASP.NET Core
