Job Description

Role purpose 

We are looking for a motivated and talented Software Engineering Intern to contribute to the development of technology solutions that support seeds research and development in agriculture technology. As a Software Engineering Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers to learn and apply modern software development practices. This role involves participating in the design and implementation of software features, learning cloud technologies and data engineering concepts, and gaining hands -on experience with Python, JavaScript frameworks (specifically React), Java, SQL/NoSQL databases, cloud platforms, data lake/warehouse technologies such as Snowflake, agentic/generative AI development, and DevSecOps practices. In this role, you will collaborate with senior engineers and stakeholders to understand business requirements and contribute to software solutions that support our products. You will assist in developing features across our tech stack, participate in code reviews, and learn best practices for building scalable, stable, secure, and maintainable software. You will gain exposure to a wide range of technologies (e.g., Python, React, Java, SQL/NoSQL, AWS, Snowflake, AI/ML frameworks) and have opportunities to explore emerging technologies under the guidance of experienced mentors. You will contribute to real world projects while developing your technical skills and understanding of how technology drives innovation in agriculture.

Accountabilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of technology solutions under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist in designing and building software components that are scalable, reliable, and maintainable.
  • Learn from and collaborate with experienced engineers through pair programming, code reviews, and technical discussions.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings to understand product requirements and contribute ideas. 
  • Follow and apply best practices in coding standards, testing methodologies, and participate in code reviews. 
  • Stay curious about industry trends and explore emerging technologies relevant to the team's work.

Qualifications

Knowledge, experience & capabilities

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • Coursework or project experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Academic or personal projects demonstrating end-to-end software development.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in team settings.
  • Foundational knowledge and hands-on experience with Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, Java, and SQL/NoSQL databases through coursework or projects.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in a remote or distributed team environment.
  • Experience working in team-based projects with diverse skill sets and backgrounds.
  • Academic or internship experience in software development lifecycle and product development concepts.
  • Exposure to or interest in learning how software applications are developed and supported in enterprise environments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple team members and stakeholders. 
  • Understanding of or interest in learning agile development methodologies and practices.
