Job Description

To support this mission, Syngenta's Product Biology Team is seeking a Product Biology Technical Manager in Greensboro, NC. This role will lead research efforts to define the biological attributes of active ingredients for weed control and strive to ensure the timely delivery of AI/product profiles that are well-scoped, with clearly understood technical limitations and possibilities.

This role works in multi-functional teams to determine the potential biological fit and sustainability of new ai/products within integrated pest management programs. This role provides creative thinking on product development to enable rapid, efficient, and value-added incorporation into Syngenta integrated solutions and initiatives.

The Product Biology (PB) Herbicide Technical Manager's remit is new weed control innovation. This person exemplifies leadership qualities, epitomizes innovative drive, and catalyzes collaborative engagement across disciplines, functions and organizations.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead North America (US and Canada) Product Biology early stage Weed Control and Weed Resistance Management (WRM) research programs with a strategic approach to pipeline development; set priorities and drive efforts needed to describe the biological attributes of active ingredients and resistance management for long term product sustainability.
  • Work in a collaborative partnership with global Product Biology and regional Product Marketing business partners to ensure development priorities are delivered in time to influence active ingredient promotion decisions and to ensure projects have a robust regional fit with continuous competitive benchmarking.
  • Lead projects representing Product Biology in regional multi-function development teams to advise on and implement testing programs that leverage digital assessments and predictive modeling.
  • Generate and implement innovative ideas on active ingredient development to enable rapid, efficient, and value-added incorporation into Syngenta integrated solutions and initiatives.
  • Build and deliver AI profiles that are well-scoped, with clearly understood technical attributes, and resistance management strategies for active ingredient handoff to regional Product Marketing.
  • Manage the development of research protocols designed to identify biological targets, use rates, appropriate formulations, phytotoxicity, and solutions/sustainability fit.
  • Serve as advisor on Weed Resistance Management Strategies, as related to product sustainability, product lifecycle management, and resistance risk across the competitive landscape.
  • Participate in appropriate Professional Societies and/or within University Organizations to represent Syngenta as leaders in product development and sustainability.
  • Manage assigned research and travel budgets.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Weed Science, Plant Biology (or a similar biological science) or MS in Weed Science, Plant Biology (or a similar biological science) with 5+ years research experience and 5+ years of field trial implementation.
  • An in-depth knowledge and understanding of key agronomic factors influencing crop production.
  • Experience in managing senior stakeholder relationships and proven ability to handle challenging discussions with diplomacy and effectiveness.
  • Working understanding/competence of processes and systems required for data capture, analysis and presentation.
  • Strong project management skills, comfortable working independently on project planning and execution, including trial budget planning.
  • Demonstrated public speaking effectiveness.
