The Role
The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the interdisciplinary field of Human-Centred Design and Artificial Intelligence (AI). We are looking for candidates with a robust research background and teaching experience in areas that intersect design, AI, and technology. This position offers a unique and exciting opportunity to shape and advance the field of human-centred design and AI at SUTD
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research in human-centred design and AI, with a focus on how AI technologies—such as natural language processing, computer vision and sensors—can be leveraged to enhance the human condition. The candidate will contribute to advancing the Design and Artificial Intelligence Programme’s mission by integrating human-centred design, AI, and emerging technologies to tackle complex, real-world challenges. The role encompasses all areas of academic activity, including education, research, service to the university, and outreach. The candidate will join a dynamic and innovative team, utilising their expertise in blended learning to develop and deliver high-quality, student-centred undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to fostering an innovative culture and mindset among students and engage with industry partners on challenging research problems

Responsibilities
- Lead, conduct, and publish high-impact research at the intersection of design, AI, pervasive sensing systems, and human-computer interaction (HCI).
- Secure research funding through competitive grants and collaborations with industry partners.
- Supervise and mentor undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students in research projects.
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science, human-centred design, and AI.
- Contribute to the strategic direction and administration of the DAI Programme and the university.
- Lead and participate in initiatives that align with SUTD’s strategic goals in design, AI, and technology.
Requirements
We encourage candidates with the following qualifications to apply:
- A Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as Human-Computer Interaction, Human-Centred Design, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Pervasive Computing, or a closely related discipline.
- A strong research portfolio demonstrated through publications in reputable journals and conferences.
- Evidence of teaching excellence and a commitment to innovative pedagogy.
- Preferably experience in securing research funding
- Experience leading research projects.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for integrating human-centred design, AI, pervasive sensing systems to solve complex, real-world problems.
