Job Description

The Role

We are looking for a Technical Writer with at least two years of technical writing experience to join our Product & Solution Documentation team. You will be focusing specifically on our flagship solutions, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, SUSE Linux Enterprise for SAP applications, and our SAP infrastructure monitoring tool, Trento. By contributing to the documentation, you help customers deploy, configure, and maintain highly available SUSE Linux Server environments and bridge the gap between complex Linux clustering technologies and the SAP administrators who rely on them.

Embedded in our international and diverse team, you will be researching, writing and editing documentation for the assigned SUSE products and solutions, in close collaboration with other teams and subject matter experts across the organization. 

You will be responsible for maintaining the existing documentation (guides) and for  writing modular documentation, following the topic-based authoring approach that we use for the documentation of SUSE Linux 16 products.

Critical for successfully filling this role is Linux proficiency, the ability to research and work independently, high customer focus and commitment to deliver high-quality documentation on time and in scope. 

The position is located within the Technology and Product function, you will be reporting to the Manager of the Linux Documentation Team. We are part of the Product & Solution Documentation team, based in the Portfolio Solutions & Services department.

Focus Areas  

Your main task is to write and maintain SUSE Linux Enterprise documentation. This includes:

• Independently researching topics

• Maintaining, updating and expanding existing documentation for SUSE Linux Enterprise, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP applications and Trento

• Writing and maintaining new documentation for the products, focusing on how-tos and use-cases

• Using DocBook XML source format (including assemblies for the topic-based approach)

• Converting existing DocBook XML documentation into reusable topics

• Closely working with Engineering, Product Management, Product Marketing and customer-facing departments

• Reviewing external contributions

• Delivering documentation on time and in scope

• Support the team in enhancing documentation workflows and processes 

Experience & Skills

Required:

• A Bachelor’s degree (or related) in technical writing, alternatively in media and communication science - or equivalent work experience

• Two or more years experience as a technical writer in the IT industry, preferably in a team of writers

• Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely

• Excellent English language skills (oral and written)

• Proven experience in treating documentation as code, including Git/GitHub  workflows

• Linux knowledge

Preferred:

• Strong communication skills, willingness to foster long-term relationships

• Familiarity with DocBook XML and topic-based authoring

• Experience with container technologies

• Basic knowledge of high availability clustering

• Familiarity with SAP HANA, SAP NetWeaver,  and SAP S/4HANA solutions is a massive plus
