Job Description

The Phlebotomist performs blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups. 

How You Will Get Things Done:  

  • Use appropriate aseptic technique to draw blood cultures  

  • Recall patients for follow-up procedures or error correction as required.  Documents callbacks in the lab logbook 

  • Monitor inventory levels and follow appropriate protocol for replenishing supplies in phlebotomy room and storage area 

  • Prepare collection containers with appropriate preservatives for patients and give instructions for proper collection of specimens at home 

  • Properly collect a COC Urine Drug Screen and H. pylori Breath test 

How You Will Build Trust: 

  • Thoroughly explain procedure to be performed to alleviate patient anxiety and facilitate patient cooperation 

  • Demonstrate kindness and compassion in all patient interactions  

 

How You Will Innovate: 

  • Utilize LIS for all applicable functions to perform job duties, including downtime procedures 

  • Use the correct procedure for completing paperwork and labeling of specimen for OVH Blood Bank specimens 

  • Process Stat specimens according to VillageMD policies 

  • Delete or cancel orders as necessary with full documentation of reason. Ensure proper patient charge deletion according to departmental policy 

 

Experience to Drive Change: 

  • High School Graduate/GED required. Vocational / Technical School / Diploma Program preferred. 

  • 0-1 years of experience, 2-4 years preferred 

  • HeartSaver or Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers required 

  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing required 

  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, communication, and team player skills required 

  • Ability to work with high degree of accuracy required 

  • Experience with Labdaq preferred 

  • Experience with Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail, label printer) preferred 

  • Experience with Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment preferred
