Job DetailsJob Location: 1500 GEORGE WEDGWORTH WAY - BELLE GLADE, FL 33430Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High SchoolTravel Percentage: NoneJob Shift: AnyJob Category: AgricultureGENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Mechanic 2nd Class is responsible for maintaining and repairing a variety of heavy equipment and vehicles. This includes diagnosing problems, performing repairs, and preventive maintenance. Must have a good understanding of mechanical principles and be able to work independently and as part of a team. Will safely, maintain, troubleshoot, efficiently repair, and service all types of sugar cane harvesting and related equipment in an safe manner. Assists Agriculture Department employees in various tasks as assigned.      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all tractors, sugar cane harvest equipment and any other equipment in the Agriculture Department’s field and shop operations. Assisting in the tire servicing of all types of equipment, including: forklifts, front end loaders, tractors and harvesting equipment.  Safely and correctly repair harvest equipment including but not limited to cane elevators, cane harvesters, tractors, air compressors, and any equipment utilized in support of agriculture. Responsible for inspecting, diagnosis of equipment failure, timed repairs, overseeing the operation of numerous lifting devices to include proper rigging procedures. Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment situated in filed locations as well as maintaining the applicable service and repairs logs.    Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with OSHA Standards and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Performs other related projects and assignments as business dictates.     SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have high mechanical aptitude and experience in repairing harvesting equipment. Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to comprehend and convey mechanical information. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to adapt quickly to a multicultural environment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure. Bilingual and Biliterate – English and Spanish, preferred.     LICENSES REQUIRED:  Regular Class E Driver’s license CDL Class B Driver’s license with “X” endorsement (preferred) A/C certification (preferred)     EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma (or GED) mechanically inclined with at least two (2) years of mechanical experience mobile equipment, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of agricultural equipment. Must be able to read manuals, blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.  Must have own set of tools.     PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Regular attendance is required during your scheduled shift, which includes weekends and holidays. Must be able to work in hot, cold, wet, humid, dusty, and foggy working conditions depending on weather.
