Sir Bobby Robson School are seeking a Teacher of PE and Sport Development to deliver high-quality Physical Education from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4, while also driving the development of a broad and engaging sport and physical activity offer for our pupils. This post includes whole-school and outward-facing responsibilities because we recognise the significant positive impact that sport and physical activity can have on pupils with SEMH. 

This is an exciting opportunity to join Sir Bobby Robson School, a specialist SEMH school within the Unity Schools Partnership, and to play a key role in leading and developing Physical Education and sport across the school. 

In addition to teaching Physical Education, you will be responsible for developing and coordinating the school’s wider sport and physical activity provision, building and sustaining community partnerships, and supporting families to access sporting opportunities beyond the school day.

You will be passionate about inclusive practice and committed to using sport and physical activity to support pupils’ wellbeing, emotional regulation, confidence and engagement with learning. You will combine strong classroom practice with the ability to lead enrichment, extra-curricular sport and community engagement that enhances pupils’ wider personal development. Sir Bobby Robson School educates young people aged 8–16 with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs. Some pupils also have additional needs, including autism, and some may present with challenging behaviours. The school serves Ipswich and the surrounding areas of Suffolk and is part of the Trust’s network of special schools, alongside The Bridge School (Ipswich), Sir Peter Hall School (Bury St Edmunds) and Churchill Special School (Haverhill).

 

You will:

  • deliver high-quality PE teaching across KS2–KS4, adapted to meet the needs of pupils with SEMH 
  • develop and implement a well-sequenced Physical Education curriculum, working with wider USP Curriculum groups. 
  • promote physical literacy, teamwork, resilience and positive wellbeing 
  • use PE to support emotional regulation and positive engagement with learning
  • use assessment and observation to inform planning and next steps for learning
  • take responsibility for a form group, providing daily pastoral oversight and building strong, positive relationships with pupils.
  • work closely with parents and carers, building trusting relationships that support pupils’ progress, attendance and engagement. Wider Sport, Community and Family Engagement
  • lead the development of the school’s wider sport and physical activity strategy 
  • establish and maintain strong links with local sports clubs, leisure providers and community organisations 
  • act as the school’s point of contact for community sport partnerships 
  • support families to access sporting opportunities, clubs and physical activities beyond the school day 
  • coordinate enrichment opportunities that enable pupils to sustain participation in sport inside and outside school 
  • promote inclusive access to sport for pupils who may face barriers due to SEMH needs or family circumstances.
