An Events Officer position has become available working in the Events Team. You will be part of a dynamic, responsive and professional team delivering a vast array of inclusive community events ranging from large music festivals to civic services. The role is very challenging but hugely rewarding for the right candidate. You will plan and deliver the annual events programme run by the council. You will also administer, organise and ensure the compliance of up to 80 commercial and charity events that use our parks and open spaces on an annual basis.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day planning and management of the events, completing reports and event documents to support the Event Programme Manager. A wide working knowledge of Health and Safety matters and financial control is very important. You will develop and lead partnership relations with relevant stakeholders and community groups. You will professionally represent the council at planning meetings through to the delivery of the events themselves.
Much of the event programme is delivered on weekends so flexible working is essential. You will lead the implementation of logistic activity related to the events and be responsible for directly building infrastructure to make sure the events run smoothly and safely.
Based at Grafton House and the Corn Exchange, the team operate at all parks and open spaces within the borough. The majority of your work will be Monday - Friday with the exception of the event build, operating and strike days where you can expect to work long and anti-social hours in all weather conditions.
You will be educated to ‘A’ Level or industry equivalent standards. Experience of working in a similar events-based role is essential, along with project management, health and safety, IT literacy and report writing skills. You will have a current working knowledge of the events industry, excellent interpersonal skills and a current valid UK Driving Licence.
The role is highly pressured with constant unmovable deadline setting and is physically challenging. You must be able to work to your own initiative and with minimum supervision. A great team player, you will drive forward shared objectives and be able to dynamically prioritise competing demands.
Hours of work are 37 per week, Monday - Friday, with additional weekend and evening work required during event season.
