About this role

  • West Suffolk Council

  • Address: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk IP33 3YU

  • Salary: £40,777 - £46,142 per annum

  • Hours: 37 hours per week

  • Contract: Permanent

  • Reference: 0584

About the role

West Suffolk Council has a strong reputation for forward-thinking and innovation around property, which forms a major element of many of the council’s exciting initiatives to deliver services to local residents, business and visitors.

We are offering the opportunity for an ambitious, dedicated and experienced Chartered Surveyor to join the council’s Property team managing the council’s diverse portfolio of over 400 operational and non-operational land and property assets. These assets include industrial premises, local shopping centres, multi-let buildings, strategic land, scheduled ancient monuments and even a world class entertainment venue.

What you will need

We are seeking a RICS (Royal Institute of Professional Development) qualified commercial property surveyor with experience in commercial real estate and mixed-use property management.

You will have a track record of being a team player and ideally previous experience in managing and administering commercial service charges in accordance with current RICS professional standard guidance along with the ability to think creatively and focus on solutions.

The role will focus on service charge management workflow across the council portfolio including a range of multi-let buildings, industrial estates and mixed-use blocks, working as part of our busy team of Estates Surveyors and providing high quality professional property advice to the authority.

You will work closely with other teams to include Finance, Technical Support services, Building Services, Facilities Management, Strategic Property and Energy and Sustainability. Some previous public sector experience is advantageous but not essential.

We occupy multi-public sector offices at Bury St Edmunds and Mildenhall and at West Suffolk Council we positively encourage agile working, with work being an activity we do, not a place we go. Work styles are led by operational and organisational need and are jointly agreed between the manager and employee. However given the nature of the role, the ability to travel around the District and understand the local markets is essential.

If you have a strong drive to use and further develop your professional skills, knowledge and experience to deliver successful and innovative solutions for a forward-thinking public sector organisation and its partners for the benefit of the people, visitors and businesses of West Suffolk, then we look forward to hearing from you.

Please refer to the job description and person specification for full details of this exciting opportunity.
