Are you looking for a role where your technical skills make a real difference to public safety? Suffolk County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service is seeking a talented CAD (Computer Aided Design) Technician to join our dynamic Business Support Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of a service that protects communities, supports firefighters, and delivers vital safety information. If you thrive in a varied, challenging, and rewarding environment, we’d love to hear from you.
Your role
As a CAD Technician, you will play a key role in producing and issuing drawings for Fire Safety documents, operational risk plans, and fire investigation reports under Fire Prevention legislation. You’ll also design and prepare graphic documents as requested, working closely with staff and senior leaders across the service to deliver high-quality outputs that help keep people safe.
What we are looking for
You can view a full list of requirements in the Job and Person Profile (docx). If you believe you can succeed in this role, apply. Even if you don't meet all requirements, still apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.
The team
The Business Support Team is a small but busy hub within the Fire and Rescue Service, providing essential administrative and operational support. You’ll have the chance to get involved in a wide range of activities, from supporting community events like Open Days and the County Show to collaborating with teams across the organisation. Based at Endeavour House, you’ll also be within the catchment area of Ipswich Princes Street on-call crew if you wish to explore operational response opportunities.
We offer flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options and alternative locations, in line with Suffolk County Council policy. Office days are typically Monday to Thursday, with the option to work from home on Fridays.
Empowering Everyone
We’re big believers in potential, possibility and the power of different ideas. We’re always searching for ways to encourage, respect and enable everyone to be the best they can be. We want to represent the diverse communities we serve. We welcome applications from all individuals, especially those from groups that are currently underrepresented in the organisation, as shown in our Workforce Equality Report
