About this role

Position Summary 

Introduce early professionals interested in outdoor education to a wide variety of activities, professionals in the field, and the different aspects of running an outdoor education center. The member will connect schools, user groups, Fresh Air families, and other groups to nature. Our programs introduce groups to environmental stewardship, basic farming, and sustainability practices. The member will also help facilitate team, and community building, programs. The member will be an integral part in helping to develop community building programs for our 6 summer camps.

March 2, 2026 - October 16, 2026

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Learning and facilitating outdoor education lessons
  • Facilitating group dynamics and teams course sessions
  • Trail maintenance and invasive species remediation
  • Farm Care and Education
  • Help in the logistical set up and breakdown for all groups before and after arrival
  • Assist in on-site group facilitation: Greeting, Teaching, Meal facilitation, Evening Program, Light Maintenance
  • Maintaining Program Supplies
  • Completion of capstone projects
    • Goal 1: Feel confident leading outdoor education lessons with a wide range of groups, from families to schools and adult learners.
    • Goal 2: Understand the scope of administrative and logistical processes and steps that go into coordinating and running an environmental center.
    • Goal 3: Get a better understanding of risk management, and how to analyze and prioritize risk.

 

Marginal Duties 

  • Participate in all SCA Corps-wide trainings and service projects, as well as project evaluation and reporting

 

Required Qualifications 

  • A passion for outdoor education.
  • A willingness to learn
  • Self-starter and highly motivated individual with a demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision to complete tasks.
  • Skills to succeed in this position: -Public Speaking -Time Management -Adaptability -Problem Solving -Creativity
  • Member must be 18+,
  • A valid driver’s license for 3+ years and a clean driving record
  • Must have the ability to pass a federal-level background check
  • Must be available for 40 hours/week for the entire duration of the contract

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Basic knowledge of environmental subjects preferred Some prior experience in outdoor education or summer camp setting preferred

 

Hours 

40 per week

 

Living Accommodations 

Member will receive free housing on site as provided by the partner

 

Compensation  

  • Segal AmeriCorps Education Award being offered for successful completion of the member’s term of service: $5,176.50
  • Living Allowance the member will receive: $440/
  • Free housing provided

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
