About the team


As Stripe continues to develop innovative products that serve businesses of all sizes around the world, risk will increase in complexity and scale. The User Risk Strategy team protects and advances Stripe’s business, brand, and mission by building and deploying industry-leading policies and practices that instill user and partner trust in Stripe while enabling business growth.


What you’ll do


As a member of the Enforcement and Monitoring Strategy team, you will partner with cross-functional teams—including Product, Engineering, Partnerships, Operations and Data Science—to design and execute on strategies and projects to improve Stripe’s risk controls and user experience. You will provide expert guidance and analyses to the business and to our most strategic customers to enable Stripe to grow in a risk-conscious manner.


We are looking for someone who is passionate about navigating ambiguity, enabling business growth while balancing risk, and is skilled at identifying ways to improve user experience.


Responsibilities


Drive risk strategy for company-level strategic initiatives, including partnering with Stripe’s Product, Engineering, Partnerships, Operations and Data Science teams to solve risk problems and ensure a positive experience for Stripe’s users



  • Perform research and analysis to assess Stripe’s current risk performance and develop and prioritize long-term strategic plans for future growth

  • Lead the data-driven design and rollout of enforcement strategies across Stripe products and services, using quantitative insights to define risk appetite and user experience

  • Configure, tune, and maintain detection and rule-based systems to ensure users are accurately identified and measured against business risk requirements; continuously iterate on rules and parameters based on monitoring and post‑incident analysis.

  • Leverage Stripe’s internal data assets and applicable third‑party sources to perform in-depth analyses, surface high‑impact signals, and translate findings into concrete policy changes and enforcement actions.

  • Define, track, and report KPIs and KRIs that measure detection coverage, enforcement effectiveness, and business impact; proactively surface gaps or performance regressions and recommend prioritized remediations.

  • Partner closely with Product, Data Science, and Engineering to embed detection requirements and enforcement logic into new product designs and launches across geographies and industries.

  • Challenge the status quo and provide multiple alternative solutions and key execution criteria

  • Represent Stripe in external engagements with our most critical partners and customers

  • Execute special projects/ad hoc analyses as initiatives, products, risks, and opportunities are constantly evolving


Who you are

Minimum requirements



  • 8+ years of professional experience, preferably in Financial Services, Payments or fintech industries

  • Experience in a related role (risk, compliance and/or product enablement)

  • Experience in developing risk strategies and solutions and working with technical (product and engineering) and operations teams to implement them

  • Ability to distill complex, ambiguous risk and policy problems into clear, concise, and reliable guidance for internal stakeholders and Stripe users

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience influencing product/engineering, sales, data science, and operations teams

  • Demonstrated track record of deriving insights from complex or technical problem spaces and evangelizing actionable product recommendations

  • The ability to take ownership, be accountable, and drive towards ambitious goals

  • Entrepreneurial and curious mindset, strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to operate independently, navigate ambiguity, and solve problems with the end user in mind

  • Strong data intuition and analysis, including proficiency with SQL 

  • Strong desire to work in a fast paced and innovative environment

  • Strong analytical skills and operating rigor

  • Strong executive presence and presentation skills


Preferred qualifications



  • Experience overseeing execution and delivery of highly-strategic programs; proven ability to take complex issues and turn them into actionable next steps, hold others accountable, and meet deadlines

  • Ability to navigate data and people to find answers and drive solutions

  • A strong understanding of our business and products, and an ability to research/self-start

  • Familiarity with one of the following:


    • Card network rules

    • Banking and money movement regulations 

    • KYC/KYB, AML OFAC compliance
