A Brief Overview
The Sterile Processing Technician, is a health care professional who will be responsible for preparing, assembling, cleaning and sterilizing all instrumentation and some equipment used in medical exams, surgeries and other clinical procedures. They will ensure strict adherence to sterilization processes and assure that instruments, equipment, and supplies are safe for reuse across patient care. The Sterile Processing Technician must demonstrate the ability to perform at a high level of skill all functions as described below.

Experience Qualifications

  • Experience in a acute care hospital setting. Preferred
  • Experience in surgery environment. Preferred
  • Sterile processing experience. Preferred


Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician - HSPA Preferred


What you will do

  • Demonstrates proper knowledge and understanding of all chemicals, detergents, and other cleaning and/or disinfecting agents used in the department.
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skill in assembly of trays and peel packs, to include identification of contents, internal chemical indicators, lot control numbers, wrapping, labeling and methods of sterilization.
  • Performs precautions and actions for steam and Sterrad sterilization methods.
  • Performs appropriate decontamination practices based on written manufactures instructions for use (MIFU) and safety protocols.
  • Works as part of a team, self-motivated and adaptable to change.
  • Performs biological testing procedures.
  • Demonstrates instrument/Set and Equipment identification.
  • Operates equipment appropriate to the job role.
  • Performs record keeping and reporting procedures related to decontamination and sterilization.
  • Maintains a clean, professional and safe work area.
  • Performs work accurately and efficiently to avoid re-work and errors.
  • Re-stocks shelves in Sterile Storage and other areas to maintain defined Par levels of all supplies, instrument trays and other items maintained in inventory.
  • Communicates process or equipment problems immediately to appropriate leadership.
  • Follows all hospital and department policies and procedures.
