 JOB DESCRIPTION

 

This position is primarily responsible for the accurate creation and maintenance of Engineering Models, Assemblies, and respective Drawings for StoneAge, Inc.  The CAD Technician is an important part of the Engineering Team and plays a key role in Product Development, New Product Introduction, via standardizing Formats, Styles, and Processes across the Engineering Department.  This position reports directly to the Engineering Services Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

Engineering Drawings and Modeling:

  • Generate and maintain Engineering CAD Models and Assemblies based on internal and external design criteria and standards.
  • Generate and maintain Engineering Drawings.
  • Generate and maintain Component & Assembly Models.
  • Implement Engineering Changes to Components and Assemblies when Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) are required.
  • Support Engineers in researching Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) as needed.
  • Upkeep and maintain consistency in CAD Model Libraries.
  • Adherence to, and upkeep Drawing Standards per StoneAge and general industry best practices.
  • Perform Drawing checking for technical accuracy, tolerance analysis/stack-up, and GD&T implementation.
  • Perform and document tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Contribute to the Engineering Services Team’s Best Practices Documentation.

 

Departmental Support:

  • Work directly with Engineers to understand Design Intent, then create New Drawings, or finish Initial Drawings.
  • Assist the Department in maintaining consistent formatting across all Drawings and Tolerancing efforts to maintain Quality, Consistency, and Accuracy.
  • Work with the whole Engineering Team to utilize the Standards outlined in the Best Practices Documentation.
  • Work with Production Coordination to submit Drawings to the Machine Shop.
  • Work directly with the Technical Writer to aid in the creation and maintenance of SolidWorks Models, Assemblies, and Exploded Views which are used in Technical Communications.
  • Address any requests for Drawing clarifications from in-house Manufacturing, Quality, and Assembly.
  • Address any requests for Drawing clarifications from external Suppliers.
  • Review internal and Supplier requested design changes within Engineering prior to implementation of ECOs.

 

General Support:

  • Attend Standups, Meetings, and Design Reviews for the Engineering Department as necessary.
  • Meet deadlines throughout the Product Development and New Product Introduction Processes.
  • Communicate project status and capacity to Engineering in real time, this includes the Design Engineer, Product Engineer, and Engineering Manager and other associates on the Design Team.
  • Perform any additional duties requested by the Engineering Manager.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

 

The CAD Technician must:

  • Possess a strong proficiency in SolidWorks (or a similar 3D Modeling Software) and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Possess a general working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
  • Knowledge PLM software is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing and Inspection methods is desirable.
  • Be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strive for continuous improvement in job mechanics and process.
  • Be a team player.

 

OTHER INFORMATION

 

  • Travel may be required.
  • Programming experience (C++, Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, etc.) preferred, but not required.
  • Extended working hours may be needed at peak times or when short staffed.
  • Must be able to lift heavy loads using proper lifting techniques as outlined in the StoneAge Employee Handbook.
  • Must follow all Safety Protocols outlined in the StoneAge Safety Handbook.
  • Familiarity with Waterblasting Safety Standards and Protocols is desirable.­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­
