Title: Gasoline Engine Calibration Engineer – In-Vehicle
Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and technically strong Gasoline Engine Calibration Engineer to develop, test, and validate engine calibration features that deliver best-in-class fuel economy, drivability, and emissions-compliant performance.
While initial responsibilities will focus on feature-level calibration, this position will grow into a system-level mindset over time—using vehicle and dyno data to broaden their understanding of overall engine and vehicle behavior.
This is not a “data-in/data-out” role—success requires technical depth, curiosity, and creative problem-solving to deliver high-quality, balanced, production-ready calibrations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the development and validation of assigned gasoline engine calibration features to meet emissions, fuel economy, and drivability targets.
- Act as the technical owner and subject matter expert (SME) for assigned calibration features.
- Perform hands-on calibration development and validation in vehicle environments, using real-world driving and test data to guide calibration decisions.
- Drive calibration feature development from early assessment through final validation, including coordinating with stakeholders, scheduling vehicle access, and proactively identifying gaps.
- Deliver robust calibrations across development phases, including testing in hot, cold, and high-altitude environments.
- Analyze and interpret vehicle and dyno datasets to identify behaviors, anomalies, or risks within assigned features.
- As experience grows, contribute observations that may indicate broader engine, controls, hardware, or emissions-related concerns.
- Collaborate closely with engine controls, hardware development, emissions, OBD, and vehicle integration teams to support learning and effective issue resolution.
- Work with global engineering teams to support calibration strategies that meet international market and regulatory needs.
- Support system validation and launch activities, including approximately 4–8 weeks of travel annually.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on gasoline engine calibration experience, including in-vehicle calibration and validation.
- Ability to execute calibration tasks with limited supervision once direction and objectives are provided.
- Strong technical understanding of internal combustion engines, powertrain systems, and calibration methodologies.
- Experience with calibration tools (e.g., INCA, ATI Vision) and data analysis tools (e.g., MDA).
- Working familiarity with emissions regulations (EPA, CARB) and OBD requirements, including an understanding of how calibration decisions and operating conditions can influence emissions performance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Industry experience in engine calibration or powertrain systems development.
- Prior dynamometer calibration or testing experience is a plus.
- Experience applying Design of Experiments (DOE) and calibration optimization techniques.
- Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink and simulation tools such as GT-Power.
- Familiarity with calibration and development tools such as PowerCal, CRETA, CANalyzer, or CANoe.
- Experience working with international engineering teams and supporting global vehicle programs.
- Exposure to hybrid or electrified powertrain systems is a plus.
