About this role

This position will be responsible for review of warranty and quality issues for the exhaust line (manifold out to tailpipe).  Engineer will be responsible for reviewing parts and documenting emerging issues.  Engineer will also be responsible for implementing potential fixes and mitigation activities including design changes and validation required.  Engineer will interact with suppliers and will work closely with internal and external groups such as testing and prototype labs, CAE engineers, vehicle program team, supplier operations and manufacturing plants..  Other responsibilities will include quality improvements, value optimization, weight reduction and other efficiency improvement initiatives including communicating technical product status to management. 

Qualifications

Basic:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field of study is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience 
  • Proficiency in English (write, listen and speak) is a requirement.
  • Must be from an ABET accredited university/or equivalent. BSME preferred.
  • 3+ years of design/development automotive engineering experience in chassis or powertrain system and components.  Will consider an internship in these areas as part of that experience.
  • Self-starter with strong leadership, communication & organizational skills and demonstrated problem solving ability.

 

Preferred:

  • Automotive experience is preferred. Product engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience with root cause analysis methods, such as reactive DFSS (Shainin & Kepner Trago). 
  • General understanding of exhaust manufacturing and assembly processes (welding, stamping, & GD&T).
  • Experience working with assembly plants (component or vehicle) to identify and solve issues.
  • Prototype experience is preferred.
  • Experience reviewing returned warranty parts and identify any potential field issues and working with suppliers or internal teams to resolve. 
  • Strong communication skills to accurately document found issues and ability to keep upper management informed.
  • Experience with Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) preferred. Experience with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) preferred.
  • Solid understanding of exhaust system/component design preferred.
  • General understanding of NX, TeamCenter and CoDeP preferred.
  • Experience in the following areas would be beneficial: Formula SAE, Baja, or similar experience in college.
