Job Summary
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Shipping Supervisor is responsible for managing the operations of the Shipping Department during the evening shift, while ensuring a high level of occupational health and safety (OHS), quality, and operational efficiency.
The incumbent will supervise a team of approximately 10 unionized employees, a team expected to grow in the coming months. The role plays a key part in planning, work allocation, and employee engagement within a Lean manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise, coach, and motivate the shipping team to ensure priorities and deadlines are met.
Promote a safe work environment and ensure strict compliance with occupational health and safety rules.
Manage daily workforce activities, including attendance, replacements, performance monitoring, training, and disciplinary actions as required.
Participate in the onboarding and development of new employees.
Coordinate shipping and receiving activities based on production needs.
Maintain departmental production and performance reports.
Identify continuous improvement opportunities and contribute to process optimization.
Foster a positive work environment based on respect, communication, and collaboration.
Work Schedule:
Evening shift: Monday to Friday, 3:15 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. (start time may be adjusted based on operational needs).
Day shift training at the start of employment.
Qualifications:
College diploma (DEC) or bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Transportation Logistics, or a related field;
3 to 5 years of experience supervising staff in a unionized environment;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, initiative, sense of responsibility, teamwork, attention to detail, and accuracy;
Excellent leadership, positive attitude, good listening skills, and sound judgment;
Ability to work under pressure and strong stress tolerance;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software;
Knowledge of SAP and Dayforce is considered an asset;
Good knowledge of occupational health and safety laws and regulations;
Bilingual in English and French, both spoken and written, to facilitate communication with internal and external English-speaking stakeholders.
