POSITION SUMMARY 

The Quality Assurance and Environment Technician ensures conformance to industry, company, and customer-specific quality standards for untreated and treated wood, preservatives, and treating specification, through sample collection and analysis. This position also ensures that environmental inspections and documentation are completed as specified by regulatory agency and provides technical consultation and troubleshooting of water treatment.

 

responsibilities

  • Collects wood samples as required
  • Analyzes samples and compare to standards for compliance
  • Identifies conforming / non-conforming materials
  • Sends quality control samples to outside laboratories
  • Works with third-party inspectors as required
  • Participates in environmental audits in conjunction with Treaters
  • Works with treaters to collect and organize audit documentation
  • Reports non-compliances to Plant Manager
  • Abides by workplace health and safety standards
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: 

  • Grade 12 required
  • Post-Secondary Education in Chemistry or Environmental Science

 

Years of experience: 

  • 2 years of laboratory experience

Languages required: 

  • Proficiency in English, spoken and written

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must work well independently and in team environments
  • Good time management
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Knowledge of wood preservation standards (an asset)
  • Ability to be flexible regarding work assignments
  • Chemistry knowledge
  • Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions
