About the Role
The Production Supervisor at Stella-Jones in Carseland is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing daily operations for the residential lumber production and distribution center departments. This position ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality production while managing a large and complex inventory environment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, organized, and people-focused leader who can drive accountability, foster positive culture change, and deliver consistent results in a high-volume, fast-paced operation.

 

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Accountability

  • Supervise and develop a team of 20–25 production employees, including leads, operators, and shippers/receivers.
  • Ensure team members meet performance, safety, and quality expectations.
  • Promote a respectful, inclusive, and accountable work environment that supports engagement and growth.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and constructive feedback to improve team performance and capabilities.
  • Lead with confidence and professionalism while supporting ongoing culture transformation.

 

Daily Production Operations

  • Oversee production activities in the lumber and distribution center (DC).
  • Manage the wrap station, loader operators, and shipping/receiving functions to ensure depot orders are completed and shipped on time.
  • Allocate labor, equipment, and materials effectively to meet daily targets and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate time, production, and inventory records using SAP and other reporting systems.
  • Enforce adherence to all safety, environmental, and operational procedures.

 

Inventory Management & Process Control

  • Manage inventory across multiple stages, from white wood to treated and wrapped products.
  • Maintain organized and accurate control of inventory SKUs and yard flow in a complex, high-volume environment.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies or losses, ensuring accurate reporting and traceability through SAP.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to streamline material flow and improve organization within the yard.

 

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure all quality control inspections meet internal and customer standards.
  • Use data and systems to identify inefficiencies and drive process improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve safety, productivity, and operational excellence.

 

Employee Development

  • Lead onboarding, training, and cross-training initiatives for production employees.
  • Conduct performance reviews, create development plans, and manage disciplinary processes when required.

 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of supervisory or lead experience in a manufacturing or production environment (wood products industry an asset).
  • Proven ability to lead teams through change, drive accountability, and foster a positive, respectful culture.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple departments simultaneously.
  • Experience managing large-scale inventory and logistics; SAP experience an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach, motivate, and influence teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to challenges such as employee relations issues or process disruptions.
