Position Overview

The FP&A Analyst at Stella Jones acts as the finance business partner to its Canadian operations. This individual will conduct analysis to improve the operational and financial effectiveness of the business. They will also be responsible for coordinating the annual budget and quarterly forecasting processes, financial modeling, preparation of timely and meaningful analysis for the business, monitoring performance against historical, budgeted, and forecasted results, and daily review of exception reports to ensure accuracy of system information.

 

This FP&A position will be based at our headquarters in Montreal (Saint-Laurent) with a hybrid schedule (typically 3 days in-office / 2 days remote once a period of integration is complete), and may involve up to 15% travel to company locations in Canada.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee the budget and forecasting processes for Eastern Canada Region and Canadian Residential Lumber Division by communicating information requirements and deadlines to various functional groups (Sales, Operations, Procurement, Transportation, Finance), providing required information / analysis to the groups, entering data into budget / forecast software, analyzing results for accuracy / reasonability, following-up with functional groups, and summarizing results for Management review / approval.
  • Use financial modeling to prepare scenario analysis to support business decisions and budget / forecast assumptions.
  • Develop and prepare monthly financial reporting package for Eastern Canada and Canadian Residential Lumber Division on a timely basis, with accurate and meaningful insights.
  • Preparation of presentation material for Management Review meetings.
  • Coordinate the development of new financial reports and financial reporting tools with the IT Department on an ad hoc basis.
  • Review daily reports for variances / anomalies, investigate as needed, and work closely with the Canadian and Corporate Accounting teams to address any potential errors / misstatements.
  • Responsible for locating and extracting financial and other related data from various accounting and information systems for the purpose of analysis.
  • Performs moderately complex statistical, cost, and financial analysis of reports and data, and prepares subsequent narrative analysis for Management.
  • Actively lead or participate in special projects as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field required; CPA or CFA designation strongly preferred (candidates actively pursuing certification will also be considered). Master’s in Accounting or Finance preferred; MBA is an asset.
  • 5 or more years of progressive experience in Accounting and/or Finance required; 8+ years highly preferred.
  • 3 or more years of FP&A experience with significant responsibility for budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial products environment is highly preferred.
