About this role

Overview

The Vermont Department of Human Resources (DHR) seeks a strong HR Business Partner to join our team supporting departments within State Government including the Department of Mental Health, Department of Health, and the Department of Liquor and Lottery. Duties will include varying degrees of human resources administrator/generalist work in hiring and onboarding, position management, classification, workers' compensation and reasonable accommodation requests. This position will also provide information and guidance to supervisors and managers consistent with Personnel Policies, Procedures, and Collective Bargaining Agreements. 


The ideal candidate will have the ability to organize and prioritize work effectively and adapt to changing demands in a fast-paced environment, in addition to possessing strong organizational skills required to coordinate and process a large volume of work and operational functions. Working both independently and as part of a team to deliver accurate and timely work and having an aptitude and interest to learn are all key to success in this position. Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are required. Familiarity with working in a union environment and/or experience working in human resources for a hospital or healthcare organization a plus.


Work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The majority of the work is completed using various systems, databases and Microsoft Office 365 applications and the remainder of the work involves working with employees and supervisors utilizing various communication methods, collaborating with colleagues, and/or attending meetings. Some work outside of regular schedule may be required.


The Department is currently supporting a hybrid telework environment. Requests to telework will be considered, with at least three days of person work at our Waterbury office required.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed largely in a standard office setting, but some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available. Some work outside of regular work schedule may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered. 

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year or more of experience in the field of human resources that includes experience with employee relations or labor relations.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field.
