Vermont is home to more than 800 lakes and ponds, from its largest well-known lakes - Lake Champlain and Lake Memphremagog - to ponds just a few acres in size. The Lakes and Ponds Program works to protect, maintain, enhance, and restore the health of Vermont lakes and the public uses that healthy lake ecosystems provide through outreach and education, monitoring and assessment, and regulatory programs. The program is one of eight in the Watershed Management Division, which utilizes a holistic, integrated watershed-based approach to managing Vermont's surface water resources.
We're looking for an experienced lake scientist to assist the Lakes and Ponds Program's monitoring section on a part-time, temporary basis. In this role, you will:
This position, Environmental Scientist V - Temporary (Job Requisition #54173), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours, and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Master's degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, soils science, geology or hydrogeology AND three (3) years or more of experience in environmental biology, microbiology or chemistry, ecology, soils science, geology or hydrogeology.
OR
Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, soils science, geology or hydrogeology AND five (5) years or more of professional experience in environmental biology, microbiology or chemistry, or ecology, soils science, geology or hydrogeology.
OR
One year experience as an Environmental Scientist IV or two years as an Environmental Scientist III.
