Job Description:
The Office of the Oregon Secretary of the Senate is seeking a reliable and structured Food Services Assistant to assist in the Joint Member Lounge by setting up and cleaning tables, assisting with food and beverage preparation, set up, and storage; moving and rearranging tables when needed; and cleaning up after meals throughout the day during the 2026 Regular Session. This position works closely with the vendor operating the Joint Member Lounge. The Joint Member Lounge serves all 90 elected members of the Senate and House of Representatives.
The Office of the Oregon Secretary of the Senate plays a key role in the administrative and procedural aspects of the Oregon State Senate. As a non-partisan entity, the Secretary’s office ensures that the legislative process is conducted in accordance with Senate rules, customs, and traditions.
This is a limited duration position beginning as soon as possible after February 3, 2026, and is expected to last no later than March 9, 2026, but could end sooner dependent on the conclusion of the 2026 legislative session.
This position requires the employee to work on-site in Salem in the Oregon State Capitol. Remote work is not available.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Assists with the set up, display and serving of food, beverages, and snacks.
- Cleans up after meals and performs ongoing cleaning to maintain sanitation of the kitchen and lounge area.
- Sets and cleans tables and serving areas. Washes dishes. Sweeps and vacuums throughout the day.
- Assists with the consolidation and proper storage of food throughout the day.
- May be asked to move and/or rearrange tables, chairs, and other equipment as needed.
- Coordinates minor repair and maintenance issues with buildings Facilities division.
- Communicated daily food menus to all members.
- Ensures only authorized members and individuals access the private member lounge spaces.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE DEMONSTRATED WORK EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS IN:
- Food service, and kitchen facilities.
- Food handlers’ card
- Excellent customer service skills and communication

- The salary in this job posting reflects the base salary without contributions to the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS). Employees eligible for PERS will have their salary increased by 6.95% and 6% will automatically be subject to a mandatory employee contribution to PERS.
