Job Description

Basic Purpose

Positions in this job are responsible for all aspects of Agri-Services Meat plant operations ensuring the achievement in production, quality, and safety goals.

 

Typical Functions

  • Prepares studies and develops plans for new industries and products, and the expansion of existing industries and product lines. 

  • Establishes and maintains procurement controls to ensure effective and timely delivery of raw materials for production.  Establishes production controls to ensure all customer orders are tracked during production, scheduled for timely shipment, and properly invoiced.   

  • Establishes and maintains inventory controls to minimize loss and to effectively and efficiently procure, store and use materials for product production. 

  • Establishes and maintains cost controls to ensure minimum expenditure of funds in the production of quality products and services 

  • Coordinates industrial activities with wardens of correctional facilities to ensure safe and secure operations, and recommends equipment needed for the improvement of existing products, or the development of new products. 

  • Develops and manages training programs for staff personnel to develop skills needed for the production of quality products and services, and to ensure safe and efficient operations 

  • Maintains current knowledge of production techniques and practices, and the materials and equipment used in similar industry operations; and recommends acquisition of materials or implementation of processes for improvement of product quality. Develops and implements production schedules of all meat items, ensuring adequate inventory is available at all times.

  • Develop and maintain Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedure (SSOP) standards which meet or exceed established United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines.

  • Ensures all products are produced are safe, wholesome, and nutritious.

  • Ensures processing is completed according to HACCP protocols and sanitation standards are being met as set forth in the SSOP procedures.

 

Education and Experience

Eight years of experience in the meat processing industry, or a bachelor’s degree in meat science or a closely related field and four years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:   Minimum qualifications as listed above plus the possession of an earned HACCP certification certificate.         

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include comprehensive knowledge of scientific principles of meat processing and production principles, to include product formulation, production processes, regulatory compliance standards, and food safety standards. Extensive knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point and SSOP sanitation principles, and possess or have the ability to obtain HACCP certification.   Knowledge of State of Oklahoma purchasing, contracts, phone bids, and bookkeeping procedures. Ability is required to develop and implement plans, possess supervisory and instructional skills, and to maintain working relationships with others.  Must possess the ability to accurately manage all required record keeping duties.  Possess the ability to professionally communicate in both written and oral form.
