Description of Work
This is a Transportation Supervisor position in the Buncombe County Bridge Maintenance Unit. Position will be responsible for the planning and scheduling of bridge maintenance activities for Buncombe County. Position will supervise lower-level supervisors and their crews in carrying out bridge maintenance activities for bridges, culverts, pipes, and sign supports. Position will be required to ensure safety standards are adhered to in each bridge maintenance operation. Position will assist the Division Bridge Maintenance Engineer in developing force account and contracted preventative maintenance activities. Position will be subject to responding to emergency situations after normal working hours and on weekends. Position will coordinate with other units within NCDOT, other government agencies and the general public in the performance of job duties.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Additional Expectations:
Ability to supervise personnel, interpret and apply personnel policies. Ability to read, interpret bridge and culvert construction plans, and erosion control plans. Bridge and basic computer knowledge required. Must be able to calculate quantities required for bridge operations and the knowledge of resources required to carry out daily work plans. Will be exposed to extreme conditions such as ice, snow, dust, and extreme temps, also high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. Must be able to traverse steep and uneven terrain. Safety toe shoes required. Preference will be given to applicants with supervisory experience.
Minimum Education and Experience
