This is protective, security and public contact work in the operation of the Samarcand Training Academy. Work involves the responsibility for the following: monitoring assigned areas for possible violation of laws and regulations, and patrolling property to guard property against fire, safety hazards, damage and theft in all weather conditions. Providing physical security through patrols of the interior and exterior of facilities, observing the activities of persons, using electronic security/ surveillance systems, and reporting unusual, suspect, or hazardous activities/situations. Duties would include ensuring the safety of the public, staff, students and others by enforcing rules of conduct; monitoring access to areas; controlling traffic of people and vehicles to prevent campus traffic or parking violations and other hazardous incidents; providing general information to the public regarding graduations, programs, special activities and/or directions; checking location and use of emergency alarms and equipment, executing the procedures to follow in the event of an emergency; and maintaining daily records and reports. Employee will perform related duties as required. Employee will operate within specified rules and regulations and receive work assignments from a higher-level supervisor. Employee must always maintain professionalism, honesty, and integrity in all situations in the presence of other state officials, campus guests and visitors. Must obtain and maintain weapon proficiency.   

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays, retirement, and health insurance. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Currently have a valid Unarmed Certification or Armed Firearms Training Certification or can obtain an Unarmed or Armed Firearms Training Certification from the NC Private Protective Services Board within 30 days of employment.


Employment contingent on successful background check. Must have a valid NC Driver License.

The Minimum Education and Experience (E&E) is REQUIRED to qualify for this position. Management Preferences, including Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs), are not required but may be used to determine the pool of most qualified applicants. Managers may also choose to interview/select applicants who demonstrate Management Preferences.

Transcripts  

  • Attaching transcripts is optional; however, we recommend applicants attach unofficial transcripts to assist in providing credit for education including in substituting education gained for experience. Additionally, qualifying for some positions may require validating hours of coursework in a specific field of study and transcripts are crucial to awarding credit. Degrees and transcripts must be achieved from an appropriately accredited college or university.

Military Experience   

  • Applicants seeking Veteran's Preference must attach a DD-214 Form (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty that includes Character of Discharge - Member 4 or Service 2 form) to the application.  

  • Applicants seeking National Guard Preference:   A current member of the North Carolina National Guard in good standing must attach a NGB 23A (RPAS).   A former member of the North Carolina National Guard who served for at least 6 years and was discharged under honorable conditions must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22.
