Description of Work

This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance coverage under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). OSHR supports the Governor's Job Ready initiative and seeks to expand a temporary's skill set to enhance their qualifications for State government and private sector jobs. This temporary position is located in Morganton - Burke County.

Job Hourly Rate of Pay: $28.15 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

Management will consider part-time (20 hours per work week)

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Public Safety Prisons Administrative Services/Foothills Correctional Institution. Employee will conduct needs assessments based on medical and mental health issues. Develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plan with input to the multidisciplinary teams. The position requires sick call assessments, medication administration, blood draws/lab services, patient education, medical documentation with electronic medical records, monitoring and treatment of communicable diseases, and responding to medical emergencies.

This position would also include Foothills RN role as triage nurse for facilities who do not have 24/7 nursing.

Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification.  The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.

 

Management Preferences: 

  • Knowledge of professional principles, practices and theory of nursing and its application
  • Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing the provision of nursing care Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of medications and the physiological effect of those medications Ability to independently plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Ability to lead a team; skill in delegation and making assignments
  • Ability to guide and counsel subordinate staff and provide feedback and advice/counsel to nursing staff on care rendered to patients
  • Ability to provide patient and family education on disease processes, treatment and self-care
  • Ability to demonstrate patience in dealing with patients, clients, and families Ability to communicate information to patients, families and staff in a concise and descriptive manner, verbally, in writing or by demonstration
  • Ability to appropriately respond to emergency situations
  • Ability to effectively teach nursing staff through orientation and on the job training.
