Description of Work
Positions 60020589, 60020590 & 60020611 will be filled from this posting. These three Engineering Technician II positions will perform roadway/structure inspection work for the Asheboro Resident Engineer’s Office. You only need to apply once to be considered for all three positions. Duties include project inspection of moderate projects, supervision of lower-level technicians, and may include assisting a survey party. Additional duties include completing daily dairies, sample cards, asphalt reports, NPDES reports, material received forms, survey notes, and monthly estimates. Qualified applicants should possess general knowledge and understanding of NCDOT concepts, practices, and theories. The position requires the ability to work safely in outdoor environments with exposure to extreme temperatures and construction site hazards such as traffic, heights, and uneven terrain. Moderate physical activity including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing is required. Work may include other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade NC09 / Salary Range $39,671 - $69,426
Management prefers applicants with the following:
Experience with contract administration
Knowledge understanding contracts, plans, standards, and specifications
Experience performing inspection, sampling, and testing of materials (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
Working knowledge of computer equipment, (iPads, desktop), software (HiCams and Share Point) and mathematical functions
Experience maintaining neat, legible and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry
Additional Expectations:
Selected applicants will be expected to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to lift 50lbs and work nights and weekends as required. Safety Toe Shoes Required.
Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
