The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible. The NCSHP has more than 1,600 troopers who cover nearly 80,000 miles of North Carolina roadways, more than any other state except Texas. Description of Work

The NC State Highway Patrol is seeking an enthusiastic team member to join our Personnel Unit as an Employment Specialist Lead. The Employment Specialist Lead serves as a subject matter in the NC State Highway Patrol recruiting processes.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Internal State Government Posting – Only current permanent and temporary NC State Government and/or University employees or layoff candidates with the State of North Carolina eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by G.S. 126 may apply.

Salary Range: $39,671-$62,000 Salary Grade: NC09

This position is deemed eligible for hybrid telework under SHP’s Telework Policy.

Management Prefers:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of applying and interpreting personnel policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated experience with Workday and or similar applicant tracking systems.

  • Demonstrated experience with screening for qualifications.

  • Demonstrated experience working in HRIS systems entering personnel actions.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Documenting on-boarding and filing documentation for accuracy.

  • Provides guidance and advice on proper recruiting processes.

  • Serves as a liaison between employees, management , and outside partners.

  • Ensure clear communication and timely exchange of information.

  • Educates and advises all partners on best practices to ensure both state and federal compliance.

  • Preparing salary packages for approval while using all aspects of salary administration.

  • Meet strict deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Adapt to sudden priority changes that may occur within the department.

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Typical work schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm

Minimum Education and Experience

Associate’s degree, typically in Human Resources

OR

relevant field from an appropriately accredited institution

AND

2 years of experience required;

OR

3 years of progressive experience in Human Resources;

OR

equivalent combination or education and experience.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference

Applicants seeking Veteran’s Preference must attach a DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, along with the state application.

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS), along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.

Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard, with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22, along with the state application.
