This temporary position is located in Kinston - Lenoir County.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Public Safety. This position is located at 3055 Dobbs Farm Rd., Kinston, NC 28504.

This position will assist the Food service Supervisor to provide support of the facility's Child Nutrition Program and will ensure compliance with the Departments' Federal Child Nutrition Program regulations by:

  • Providing nutritionally adequate meals meeting the Federal Child Nutrition Program partners.

  • Maintaining required records, report, and inventories in compliance with federal and state regulation.

  • Requisition food and supplies as needed.

  • Checking the cost and quality of items received and insure proper storage.

  • Complying with policies and procedures of the Department' Assuming any responsibilities as designated by the Detention Center Cook II Supervisor and/or Youth Development Center Food Service Supervisor IV and/or immediate supervisor, facility Director, the Child Nutrition Program Administrator and Child Nutrition Program Administrative Officer.

Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification.  The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed within this vacancy announcement will be used only as management preferences and will be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.

Management prefers applicants with the following:  

  • Knowledge of the methods of preparing meats, vegetables, and/or other foods in group quantities.  Experience using various food service equipment including food processors and/or ovens.

  • Experience inspecting incoming fresh vegetables, fruits, and/or meats to determine that they meet purchase order specifications.

  • Knowledge of the cooking times and temperatures of various foods and/or methods of preserving their flavor, food value, and/or safety.

  • Experience planning food for a large number of persons and/or requisitioning needed food items.

Minimum Education and Experience

Education and/or experience in food preparation that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to one year of experience in a commercial and/or institutional setting.
