What is this career opportunity?

The technician will install and certify structured cabling systems and fiber networks for both inside and outside plant environments, assist with basic network equipment installations, and provide on-site technical support and customer service. The ideal candidate learns quickly, communicates well with both technical and non-technical people, and works effectively both independently and as part of a team.



What are we looking for?

Education and Experience: 

  • Siemon Structured Cabling System Certification (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe)

  • At least 2 years of applicable cabling and network diagnostics experience

  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis

Competencies:

Knowledge required for the first day of work:

  • Knowledge of ANSI/TIA/EIA cabling standards and National Electric Code as they apply to low-voltage cabling

  • Knowledge of data network operations including switching, routing, voice, and video technologies

  • Knowledge of network diagnostic tools and test equipment

  • Valid State of Montana driver’s license

Skills

  • Experience installing and certifying structured cabling systems (copper and/or fiber)

  • Basic network equipment installation (switches, routers, access points, etc.)

  • Ability to write clear technical ticket requests, work logs, and communication specifications

  • Experience with customer invoicing for services or providing accurate information for billing

Ability to:

  • Learn quickly and adapt to new technologies, tools, and standards

  • Effectively communicate with diverse levels of management, coworkers, and external stakeholders

  • Provide excellent, professional customer service in the field and remotely

  • Communicate technical issues in clear, simple language to non-technical individuals

  • Work independently with minimal supervision and manage time and priorities

  • Collaborate as part of a team on larger projects and multi-day installations

Work environment and conditions

  • Primarily field-based work at customer sites, with some office time for documentation and configuration

  • Work may involve ladders, ceilings, crawl spaces, and data closets/telecom rooms

  • Occasional overtime or after-hours work may be required to meet customer needs
