The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Division.

The BHDD implements and improves the statewide system of prevention, treatment, care and rehabilitation for Montanans with mental disorders or addictions to drugs or alcohol.

The Program Evaluator Lead monitors programmatic goals and objectives to assess the effectiveness of division programs and initiatives to support the statewide system of prevention, treatment, care and rehabilitation for Montanans with mental disorders or addictions to drugs or alcohol. This position is responsible for program evaluation support for the BHDD. Responsibilities include: 1) Analyzing programmatic, service-related, and surveillance system data; 2) Designing, coordinating, and managing special evaluation procedures where there is no other existing data available; 3) Developing and conducting various trainings related to program evaluation and quality improvement issues; 4) Designing and conducting program evaluations; and 5) functions as a lead worker providing program evaluation and epidemiology direction and training to staff.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

  • Skill in programming in Statistical Analysis System (SAS) or other statistical software.

  • Ability to manipulate and analyze large, complex data sets.

  • Skill in descriptive and inferential statistical analysis.

  • Ability to identify relationships and trends in data as well as factors that could affect the results of research.

  • Meet minimum qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in health science, health education, behavioral or social science, or a closely related degree.

    • Three years of job-related experience in program evaluation or related health or education programming.

    • Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2026.

The primary location for this position is open for consideration, within the state of Montana, contingent on available workspace. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state and DPHHS policies.

This position is open until filled with frequent screening of applicants.
