GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Maintain an enterprise network to include all hardware, software, database and associated physical connection devices such as PC, printer, mobile laptops and IOT devices. To perform duties as required as it pertains to job specifications.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under general supervision with wide considerable latitude in addressing both day-to-day and troubleshooting situations in the maintenance of the system.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Usually none
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Maintain an automated records management software application, which includes, but is not limited to: computer aided software, mobile software, databases and database software.
Maintain imaging capabilities to include mug shots, crime scenes, accident diagrams, witness statements.
Maintain security and personnel file codes.
Update Geo System maintenance.
Act as liaison between the Department of Public Safety and software companies having business with the state.
Gain knowledge of reports to develop customized in-house tabular and graphical statistical reports utilizing the database.
Conduct initial and in-service training of the software to Department members.
Install and maintain network operating systems, network performance, diagnostic and other network related software
To install and troubleshoot network equipment in multiple client/server operating system environment.
Provide end user support and technical assistance for application packages.
As required, to assist a supervisor in adding new network users and in implementing and maintaining network security.
Attend user meetings to discuss problems and solutions with the software.
Act as a liaison with other personnel and agencies with respect to interfacing the software with the fingerprinting equipment, RILETS and other police departments.
Coordinate the installation of future software updates.
To perform minor, preventative hardware maintenance (e.g. changing ribbons in printers, replacing springs in printers, cleaning disk drive units, etc.).
To bring system back up subsequent to system crashes.
To maintain a library of software/hardware vendor-provided materials.
As required, to assist in converting manual systems into data processing systems in a narrow functional area.
To perform system backups and restoration of user files.
To assign passwords and create directories for new users.
Maintain the active directory environment including DHCP, GPO, DNS, and certificate management.
Monitor network servers for growth and usage trends.
Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, SAN systems, other systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Recommend, install, test, and manage existing and new servers and software including such systems as messaging, fileservers, and database, among others in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
Provide technical assistance related to daily and assigned use; Assist users and desktop support staff in identifying source of, and correcting errors.
Configure and maintain a scalable and high availability virtual environment utilizing VMware vSphere ESXi 6.5 hypervisor. Including servers, storage and platforms.
Perform security analysis and maintain security at physical, network and system levels. Serve as the first line of defense against intrusion and inadvertent system damage.
Anti-virus software administration.
Vulnerability remediation.
Be responsible for maintaining, expanding, and scaling several websites.
To maintain an existing system whose application has a narrow functional focus.
To provide on-site instruction and guidance to users in the use and operation of application software and system hardware.
Monitor network servers for growth and usage trends.
To do related work as required.
Required Qualifications for Appointment
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES:
A thorough knowledge of the operation, adjustment and routine maintenance needed for large LAN's or mini-computer systems, including dedicated terminals/PCs utilized to access mainframe databases; a working knowledge of the methods of the selection and installation of basic hardware and software utilized in the designated environment; the ability to perform routine hardware and software installation and maintenance within the designated system environment; the ability to guide and instruct users on system operations and procedures; the ability to perform minor programming tasks; the ability to interact with vendors, agency personnel or providers of technical assistance in troubleshooting unresolved system malfunctions; the ability to perform data entry, document or report generation for agency projects; the ability to perform varied and routine office and clerical functions; and related capacities and abilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Such as may have been gained through: possession of an associate degree in Computer Science, including or supplemented by courses related to personal computers; and
Experience: Such as may have been gained through: three years' experience in field doing related work;
Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
