This position will function as agency lead over asset coordination at DHS. 
•    This position is in the ACFR Unit reporting structure with the primary responsibility being asset maintenance and reporting.
•    Knowledge of the Arkansas Administrative Statewide Information System. 
•    Knowledge of state processes and administrative practices and procedures regarding assets.  
•    Experience in responding to auditors inquiries and developing corrective action plans. 
•    Knowledge of Microsoft products and applications. 
•    Experience in compiling complex data and the ability to clearly communicate finding in a comprehensive report.

Salary Range: $58,700 - $86,876

Job Summary

The Accountant I is responsible for performing professional accounting and financial tasks within a department. This position involves processing financial transactions, preparing reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with state financial regulations and policies. The Accountant I will work closely with other financial staff to ensure accuracy and consistency in the agency’s financial operations.

Primary Responsibilities

Prepare and maintain financial records, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all transactions. Assist in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts in accordance with state regulations and policies. Reconcile accounts, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved in a timely manner. Prepare journal entries and ensure all entries are properly documented and in compliance with state accounting standards. Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.

Knowledge and Skills

Familiarity with governmental accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting processes. Proficient in accounting software (e.g., PeopleSoft, QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel) and standard office applications. Skilled in preparing and presenting financial statements, budgets, and reports. Understanding of state and federal financial regulations and accounting standards.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
