About the role

In this role you will be responsible for building and maintaining strong client relationships and developing business opportunities to grow the group, as well as providing team leadership, project prioritisation and technical expertise to ensure successful project outcomes.  You will also be responsible for ensuring projects meet both the client and Stantec expectations.

You will ensure your teams are fully utilised on projects and will work with the Project Managers and Business leaders to resource projects accordingly.

The Group Leader position is a function, in addition to technical/ project contribution role as Senior Principal Engineer.

  

Day to day tasks would involve: 

  • People Leadership

    • Responsible for the team’s talent management lifecycle including but not limited to; recruitment suggestions, career training and development, employee engagement, succession planning, coaching and mentoring, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development.
    • Foster a success-oriented environment within the teams by displaying collaborative behaviours and exerting measured and balanced influence.
  • Technical Expertise and Project Execution

    • Responsible for design of complex projects, requiring specialized knowledge, including technical preparation and coordination of the design, specifications, technical documentation etc. to ensure compliance with project requirements.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders in client project requirement meetings, coordination meetings with internal and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors in preparation and coordination of project specifications.
  • Business Development and Client Relationship Management

    • Initiate and manage business development opportunities, actively participate in and lead client service through establishing and maintaining strong relationships.
    • Lead and/or review proposals for pricing, approach and methodology, variation estimates and submission documents, and review and evaluate subconsultant tender response submissions to ensure they are suitable.
  • Operational and Performance Management

    • Ensure optimal team utilization through effective forecasting, workload management, and delegation of tasks.

  

To be successful for this role you'll need: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a demonstrated 15 years' experience in the delivery of multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects
  • Charted Professional Engineer (CPEng)
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian codes and standards, regulatory requirements, guidelines, current trends and legislation to deliver innovative and practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and an ability to drive a high performing team.
  • Strong commercial acumen to align performance with overall goals and achieve profitability in an efficient and cost-effective way.
  • An ability to influence and negotiate through effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly developed client relations and stakeholder management skills
