The Minneapolis based group at Stantec is consistently working on a wide variety of exciting industrial food and beverage, process, chemical, agricultural, and other manufacturing projects. From retrofit/upgrade projects to brownfield additions, to complete greenfield facility installations, we partner with clients through all phases of the project lifecycle to deliver high quality designs and outcomes.

 

Your Opportunity 

As an Electrical Engineer, you will be expected to work with minimal supervision, taking a lead role for electrical/controls on both smaller projects and larger projects. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project, verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards / practices. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, deliverable preparation, client meetings, and field support for information gathering, start-up and commissioning.

Reporting Relationships

This role will report internally to the electrical group manager but will have other “soft” lines of reporting to the project managers for projects that you are working on. Although you will not have any direct reports, you will be responsible for overseeing other team members on project-related activities.

 

Your Key Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for projects of complexity/size.
  • Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all electrical engineered systems or products for a project (generally 480V distribution and lower) but some medium voltage design can be expected.
  • Design and/or give input to plant wide control systems that include PLC’s, HMI’s, remote I/O racks, MCC’s, VFD’s, and all associated networking requirements in varying topologies.
  • Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Utilizes BIM technologies in development of 3D models of building’s electrical systems and provides markups for CAD designers.
  • Prepares and revises documentation in various electrical phases including but not limited to single line diagrams, panelboard schedules, plan/location drawings, electrical equipment lists, cable schedules, area classification, network architecture, and P&IDs.
  • Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Participates in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating.
  • Assists with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.
  • Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
  • Performs and oversees the performance of calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Participates in constructability reviews.
  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects.
  • Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the electrical group.
  • Works on multiple projects, demonstrating effective time management


Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
