Position Summary

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for CNC metal removal repair processes in support of aircraft engine and component Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operations.
  • Develop, validate, and sustain CNC repair solutions; including CNC programming, tooling and fixturing design, process trials, documentation, and training.
  • Partner with Operations, Quality, and Engineering to troubleshoot CNC process issues, support production throughput, and continuously improve repair capability, performance, and safety.

 Key Responsibilities 

  • Create and validate CNC programs for CNC Mills, Lathes, Grinders, and other CNC-based processes. 
  • Work collaboratively with Operations, Production Engineering, Repair Development, and Project Teams to plan and perform component repair implementation.
  • Provide day-to-day production support and troubleshooting for CNC machine operations.
  • Ensure CNC process compliance with technical data, environmental and safety regulations, and internal quality requirements. 
  • Provide training, mentorship, competency evaluations, and technical problem resolution for CNC Technicians. 
  • Write and review technical documentation including Set-up Sheets, Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Support corrective action activities and quality audits for CNC processes. 
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement activities for CNC Processes. 
  • Prepare technical specifications and cost benefit analysis for the procurement of new capital equipment.
  • Lead and support the installation and commissioning of CNC process equipment. 
  • Complete special projects which may involve travel to support worldwide StandardAero facilities.

 Essential Skills

  • Experience with CAD modeling and CAM programming. Autodesk Inventor and Mastercam experience is an asset. 
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical drawings. Thorough knowledge of GD&T.
  • Understanding of aerospace fabrication methods and processes.
  • Expertise in the design and selection of tooling and fixtures.
  • Strong planning, organization, decision making, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Effective written and oral communication. 

 Education and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an Aerospace, Manufacturing, or a Metal Finishing Industry Environment.
  • College Diploma in CNC Machining and Advanced Technology; or University Degree in mechanical, industrial, aerospace, or metallurgical engineering; or equivalent.

 Preferred Characteristics

  • Experience with custom macro programming, probe programming and use of logic functions on CNC Controllers.
  • Experience with electrostatic discharge machining (EDM), shot peening, waterjet stripping, and bench work is an asset.
  • Experience programming CMMs or interpreting CMM results of machined components. Proficiency in MCOSMOS is an asset
  • Experience teaching, training, and qualifying Technicians or Engineers in production processes. 
  • Eligibility for registration by a professional associations of engineering/applied science technologists or equivalent is an asset. 
  • Project management skills is an asset.
