About the role

  • Provide strategic leadership, coordination, and governance of the Pharmacy Education and Training Program to support SVHS organisational objectives, enhance workforce capability, and optimise patient outcomes, ensuring alignment with relevant standards, policies, and accreditation requirements. 

  • Maintain advanced clinical pharmacy competence and actively contribute to the delivery of high-quality clinical and operational pharmacy services, modelling best practice and supporting continuous improvement. 

  • Support and supervise pharmacists, interns, and pharmacy assistants/technicians, fostering a culture of learning, accountability, and excellence in service provision through structured education, mentoring, and performance development. 

  • Collaborate with the Pharmacy Leadership Team to achieve departmental performance goals across clinical, operational, and workforce domains, promoting effective communication, teamwork, and stakeholder engagement. 

  • Lead the development, implementation, and review of Pharmacy Department Standards of Practice to ensure safe, consistent, and evidence-based practice and alignment with clinical guidelines, formulary processes, and documentation protocols. 

  • Drive and support education initiatives, including intern training, student placements, continuing professional development, and quality use of medicines programs, aligned with SVHA strategic priorities and national competency frameworks. 

  • Participate in and contribute to relevant committees, sub-committees, and working groups, providing expert input into medication safety, clinical governance, and workforce development initiatives. 

  • Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including other pharmacy departments, universities, and professional bodies, to enhance learning opportunities and support innovation in pharmacy education. 

About you

  • Current registration as a pharmacist with AHPRA, with no restrictions on scope of practice, and post-registration qualifications or equivalent experience or ANZCAP recognition in clinical education, workforce development, or pharmacy leadership, and availability for on-call and weekend work as per roster requirements. 

  • Demonstrated experience in the design, delivery, and evaluation of pharmacy education programs, including intern training, orientation, competency assessment, and structured development pathways for junior pharmacists. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop high-quality educational materials, guidelines, and competency frameworks, and to present effectively to diverse professional audiences. 

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop staff, fostering a positive learning culture and supporting progression through structured feedback, performance planning, and professional development initiatives. 

  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated capacity to manage competing priorities, contribute to strategic workforce planning, and implement innovative education initiatives aligned with SVHS and national frameworks (e.g. ANZCAP).
