About this role

Position Title: Coaching and Student Success Specialist.
Department: Academic Success Center.
Classification: Non-Exempt.                             
FTE: 0.50.
Work Schedule: 20 hours per week to be worked between Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., hours need to be consistent and approved by supervisor, Occasional evenings and weekends are required. This is a temporary position that will last up to 18 months.
Work Location: On campus. Opportunities to occasionally work from home. 
Hourly Rate: $25.05 - $28.10.
 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Advising.
    • Advise transfer students.
    • Lead student outreach/nudging campaigns including during registration periods, advising questionnaire completion.
    • Advise incoming students during the Summer Registration period.
    • Assist with the planning of Major Declaration Celebration, advising workshops and trainings.
  • Provide Academic Skills Coaching.
    • Provide one-on-one academic skills coaching meetings to students, including students participating in the Engage Program, which supports first-generation college students.
    • Coach approximately 10 students participating in Academic Progress Coaching each semester.
  • General Office Responsibilities.
    • Provide outreach and onboarding of students returning from an absence.
    • Provide supplemental advising, especially during registration periods.
    • Assist with the management and creation of Academic Success Center marketing efforts.
    • Assist with all Academic Success Center support activities such as the SOAR program, new student orientation activities, reporting, data collection, and meetings. 
    • Serve as a back-up to other staff in Academic Success Center and assist as needed.
    • Participate in weekly staff meetings and contribute to the center’s effective operation.
    • Collaborate with a wide range of campus partners.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle.
    • Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community

Supervision Received and Exercised:

  • Reports to the Director of the Academic Success Center.                                 
  • This position does not supervise staff or student workers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree; maintain a valid driver’s license and meet St. Olaf College driver authorization criteria with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in student services, such as advising underrepresented students, mentoring, tutoring, Supplemental Instruction (SI), study skills development, and academic coaching, or related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Higher Ed Administration, or another relevant field.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in coordinating student services, such as advising underrepresented students, mentoring, tutoring, SI, study skills development, and academic coaching at a liberal arts college; experience using TutorTrac software.

  • Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check which may include: criminal background checks, reference checks, verification of work history, verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, a motor vehicle check, verification of DOT certification, a credit check, employment eligibility verification, and/or a pre-employment physical. Whether a background check is deemed successfully completed will be at the sole discretion of St. Olaf College.  Please note, St. Olaf College reserves the right to conduct periodic background checks at its sole discretion.
