About this role

Your role at St John of God Murdoch Hospital

As a Pastoral Intern you will work in a mentor model learning environment, working closely with the Pastoral Services team in supporting patients and their families by offering pastoral care. You will work under the supervision of the Pastoral Services Manager/Mentor. 

The internship is aimed at developing and strengthening the requisite pastoral care skills, with the potential of leading to a Pastoral Practitioner role.

  • Participate in self-reflection and recognise own areas for improvement.

You will demonstrate a strong level of self-awareness and capacity for self-reflection, along with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. You will also show a professional capacity for ongoing learning and a proficient level of English comprehension.

To be successful in the role, you will have completed a minimum level of education equivalent to Certificate IV or higher. You will demonstrate a sound understanding of pastoral practice, along with a strong awareness of and respect for diversity in faith, cultural, and social backgrounds when providing pastoral and spiritual care.

Completion of the SJGHC Pastoral Supervised Immersion Program is desirable or enrolment in, or actively working towards, a formal tertiary qualification in pastoral studies. Previous experience in providing pastoral care, such as in youth work, schools, or church communities, will be highly regarded.

  • Salary: $74,627 per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 12% superannuation

  • 6 to12 month fixed-term, part-time position, working 22.5 hours per week
