Your role at St John of God Midland Public & Private Hospital

As a valued member of our multidisciplinary clinical team, the Haematologist will deliver high‑quality haematology services to patients while providing clinical leadership to medical staff.

You will champion quality and safety practices, contribute to ongoing service improvement, and play a key role in the training, supervision and education of doctors in training and other health professionals. Working collaboratively with fellow consultants and the Head of Department, you will help shape a supportive, expert, and patient‑focused haematology service.

This role is Permanent Part-time at .3FTE (12 hours per week)

The Position

  • Provide haematology services to patients in the public and private wards at the hospital as defined by your scope of practice for Midland.

  • Undertake clinical shifts as agreed with the Head of Department, with a current focus on shifts Monday to Friday during business hours.

  • Accept appropriate referrals both internal and external to the hospital, in accordance with the hospital’s role delineation.

  • Take a leadership role in education and monitoring of doctors-in-training.

  • Clinical review and assessment of patients within 24 hours of referral.

  • Awareness of indigenous customs and community expectations in considering how best to look after, admit or discharge indigenous patients.

  • Regular review of patients, together with doctors in training with a focus on quality of care and discharge planning, ensuring that the medical record is accurately updated after each review.

  • Clinical review and management of patients referred to hospital outpatient services, with a focus on returning the patient to the care of their GP or primary care provider at the earliest opportunity.

  • Support and liaison with patients and their carers, together with other clinical staff and health care providers, to provide coordinated multidisciplinary care.

You will have registration from the Medical Board of Australia as a specialist in Haematology and Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA).

You will possess advanced knowledge, clinical expertise, and well-developed skills in Haematology with the ability to foster skill development and clinical excellence within the team. Experience in research and relevant postgraduate qualifications will be highly regarded.
