Job Title: Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse

Department: Intensive Care Unit

Reports To: Director of Nursing


Job Summary:

  • Continuously monitor patients' vital signs and conditions.
  • Assess patients' progress and response to treatments and medications.

  • Perform complex medical procedures such as inserting intravenous lines, administering medications, and managing ventilators.
  • Assist in specialized procedures like intubations, arterial lines, and hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Coordinate care with other healthcare team members, including physicians, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists.
  • Communicate effectively with patients' families to provide updates and support.
  • Advocate for patients' needs and preferences within the healthcare team.
  • Ensure patients receive appropriate care and treatment based on their condition and medical history.

  • Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families during stressful times.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of patients' conditions, treatments, and progress.
  • Adhere to hospital policies and procedures regarding documentation and patient confidentiality.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills to prioritize tasks and make decisions quickly in emergency situations.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions and adjust care plans as needed.
  • Follow strict protocols for infection control and patient safety.
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Stay updated with advances in critical care nursing through continuing education and training.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and research projects within the ICU.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced and unpredictable environment.
  • Adapt to changes in patient load, staffing, and clinical needs of the unit.

Requirements

License and Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Current NYS Registered Nurse Licensure.

Experience

  • 1 year of emergency or intensive care unit experience preferred
  • Current qualifications in ACLS and BLS preferred. 

Physical Demands

Walking, sitting, repetitive motion, lifting minimum of 25 lbs., has the ability to stand for long periods of time i.e. 50 minutes. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position without compromising patient care.


Working Conditions

Able to adjust to the high demand setting of healthcare and work cohesively with all departments in the hospital.
