Job Summary:

Upon physicians' orders administers various modes of therapy and various medical gas therapies to restore normal function. Initiates cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BLS).

Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.

Job Description:

  • Administers various therapies and medical gases to achieve the therapeutic objective.
  • Teaches the patient proper therapy techniques to elicit patient cooperation and ensure effective therapy.
  • Administers safe, effective respiratory treatments, consistent with current standards of practice, to restore normal cardio-pulmonary function in acute care areas excluding Critical Care i.e.: ICU, ED, NICU.
  • Administers safe, effective medical gas therapy, consistent with current standards of practice, to achieve restoration of normal oxygenation in acute care areas excluding Critical Care i.e.: ICU, ED, NICU.
  • Documents and communicates effects and effectiveness of therapy administered to ensure continuity of care between other members of the health care team.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies to ensure decontamination, disinfection, sterilization and proper function of that equipment and supplies.
  • Follows the applicable safety and health rules as stated in SEMC’s policies and procedures, and performs work related duties in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

  • Registered student in an AMA and CoARC accredited educational program for Respiratory Therapists.
  • Completed a minimum of one clinical semester. 
  • Holds current limited mandatory certificate to practice Respiratory Therapy in the state where work is being performed.                               

Specialized Knowledge:

  • CPR certified for basic life support
