WIRE DRAW OPERATOR

The Onsite Wire Draw Operator will set up, operate, or tend machines to extrude or draw thermoplastic or metal materials into tubes, rods, hoses, wire, bars, or structural shapes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Perform set-ups, changeovers, adjustments and quality checks on wire draw machines. 
2. Produce wire from hot rolled rods. 
3. Load machines with rod, which requires forklift certification. 
4. Assembles and set-up to lock dies lineups for the wire draw machines. 
5. Determine setup procedures and select machine dies and parts, according to specifications. 
6. Monitor and add drawing soap to each box as needed. 
7. Continuously monitors the surface appearance of the wire to assure a good quality product is being produced. 
8. Adjust controls to draw metal into specified shapes and diameters. 
9. Examine, measure, and weigh materials to verify conformance to standards. 
10. Measure and examine extruded products to locate defects and to check for conformance to specifications, adjusting controls as necessary to alter products. 
11. Repair tangles and breaks in the wire line. 
12. Perform buttwelds. 
13. Change dies on wire drawer, as needed. 
14. Change casting rollers, as needed. 
15. Perform preventive maintenance, as directed. 
16. Perform quality inspections on wire. 
17. Perform tensile testing, utilizing a tensile machine. 
18. Reel extruded products into rolls of specified lengths and weights. 
19. Load and unload trucks, as needed. 
20. Ensure work area is maintained in high level of a 5S standard at all times. 
21. Troubleshoot, maintain, and make minor repairs to equipment. 
22. Operate shearing mechanisms to cut rods to specified lengths. 
23. Package finished product.

Position Supervised or Directed:

Reports to Wire Draw Manager. 

Qualifications, Experience requirements:

• Degree/Diploma Obtained: High School Diploma or GED
• Additional Training Requirements: Scale Operator Duties and Rod Loader Duties
• Certificates/Licenses/Registration: Forklift Operator
• Minimum of 1 year of manufacture- related experience preferred
• Operation of Wire Draw Machine preferred. 

General Requirements:

• Detailed and hands-on oriented.

Working Conditions:

• Manufacturing plant environment 
• Frequently indoors
• Occasionally exposed to high/cold temperatures, loud noises, and fumes.
• Physical ability that may require lifting, carrying, and standing for long time periods.
